Meet one of Aphrael's great black heroes
“Who Am I?” This great Black American was a very brave man. He gave his life for the cause of freedom.

“Do you know who he is?” “The Mulatto” was the nickname that people gave to this man because his father was Black and his mother an American Indian. This famous Black American was born in Farmington, Massachusetts around 1723. He was born a slave. However, even as a very young boy, he loved freedom. For that reason on September 30, 1750, he ran away from his slave master and became a drifter. While a drifter, “the Mulatto” grew into a 6' 2" giant of a man. He became a commanding figure around the lower docks of the Boston Harbor.

During the period that this famous Blackman frequented the lower docks of the Boston Harbor, the young country of America was demanding its freedom from Britain. The powerful voice of “the Mulatto” could be heard shouting for freedom, as loudly as anyone in Boston. You see, he remembered his days as a slave and knew the value of freedom.

One day, after a young Boston citizen was beaten by a British soldier, “the Mulatto” led a group of angry people up King Street in Boston to confront the guilty man. There, in front of the soldier's sentry station, this famous American was gunned down by the British. That event has become known as the Boston Massacre. It happened on March 5, 1770. “The Mulatto” was the first of five men to die that day.
